Jazz is a crisp, hard apple with a strong sweet-sharp flavor and a fruity pear-drop note. The flavor unquestionably puts it in the top tier of apples, and it's difficult to think of a traditional variety that can compete with it. Jazz, a cross between a Braeburn and a Royal Gala, emerged in New Zealand in the 1980s.
