What is paleo?

The word paleo comes from Paleolithic and paleo diet is designed to resemble what human hunter-gatherer ancestors ate thousands of years ago. That is, a whole foods diet, avoiding refined carbohydrates, dairy and gluten. The idea is that our bodies have not evolved fast enough to keep up with the massive change in our food sources that the advent of agriculture brought. By following a whole food-based diet and leading physically active lives, hunter-gatherers presumably had much lower rates of lifestyle diseases, such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

The issue with paleo

With the explosion of paleo right before the arrival of keto, many companies sought to jump on the bandwagon, and simply created and classed foods as ‘paleo’ by excluding the foods listed above. However, what they chose to include instead was often processed in some other way or made with harmful oils. Rest assured all of the products we offer have been rigorously analysed by our team of nutritional experts to none of those harmful nasties make it into your paleo diet.

What classifies as “paleo” food?

If you’re following a paleo diet, then the majority of your meals should be coming from wholefoods. So if you’re cooking yourself, you should be able to find a bunch of ingredients throughout our store and lots in the baking section. However, if you’re looking for a quick paleo snack you will only find those which include natural, whole and raw ingredients. What sets paleo slightly apart from keto is that you can include snacks which are higher in carbs and which are sweetened which natural ingredients such as honey and dates.
