what is psyllium husk?

Psyllium husk is the covering of the seed of the plant Plantago ovato primarily found in Asia. The husk is a viscous soluble fiber which easy absorbs water, creating a gel. Because of how fiber rich the husk is, it is an extremely low net carb food making it fit perfectly into a keto or low carb kitchen.

Psyllium husk has traditionally been used for its laxative effect when combined with enough water, which is also an application for people just starting out on a new way of eating who may struggle in this department at the beginning.

There is also some research to suggest that the high fiber content of the psyllium husk can slow the movement of food through the digestive tract, and in turn slow glucose absorption into the bloodstream.

Some studies have shown that psyllium binds to bile acids, which has the potential to decrease LDL cholesterol levels.  Psyllium use has also been reported to increase HDL cholesterol and decrease triglycerides, meaning that it seems to be heart health supportive across the board!

was as described. i like to use it for backing bread. the texture of the bread is good and it not very different from the white flour backed bread. i just have one comment, for some reason the color of my bread after adding the Husk is always brown .
